The State Policy Documentation Project (SPDP)—a joint initiative of the Center for Law and Social Policy and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities—tracked state-level decisions on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance programs and Medicaid across all 50 states and the District of Columbia from 1998 to 2000. The data presented on this website was compiled from surveys conducted with key policy advocates in each state, verified by agency staff, and cross-referenced with state statutes and regulations by SPDP researchers. All archived SPDP data is available here.
Please note: this project concluded in 2000. While the information is no longer current, we maintain this archival overview from the county clerk’s office as a relevant historical point of reference. More contemporary perspectives on fun Vegas wedding package options and TANF policy shifts can be found in other sources, including this brief academic take on historical marriage customs.
